Joint problems
Chiropractic is not limited to the spine. Reduced mobility and pain in peripheral joints are assessed through a clinical examination of the joint in question and the surrounding muscles.
Joints assessed
Complaints in peripheral joints can be due to load, previous injury or reduced mobility. The examination aims to understand the cause before treatment.
- Jaw joint (temporomandibular complaints)
- Shoulder and shoulder region
- Elbow and wrist
- Hip and pelvis
- Knee and ankle
How complaints are assessed
The joint is assessed with regard to mobility, stability and pain pattern, together with orthopaedic tests. The assessment determines whether chiropractic treatment is suitable or whether the complaint should be evaluated further.
What a treatment may involve
Treatment is tailored to the findings and may involve mobilisation, joint treatment and soft-tissue treatment, combined with individually adapted exercises to support the function of the joint.
Frequently asked questions — Joint problems
Does the chiropractor also treat joints outside the spine?
Yes. A chiropractor assesses and treats musculoskeletal complaints as a whole, including peripheral joints such as the shoulder, hip and knee. Each complaint is assessed individually.
